Amanda s review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book ReviewsWhat a Lass Wants by Rowan Keats is another adventure of intrigue and danger in this fourth installment of the Claimed by the Highlander series With ach new story her writing and storytelling get better as she develops a romance during these politically treacherous times Caitrina de Montfort is caught in the middle of a plot to spy on the pregnant ueen of Scotland Bran MacLean has stolen a valuable treasure and now is in hiding as one of the ueen s nobleman Caitrina finds the treasure and uses it as blackmail Story feels unfinished WHAT A LASS WANTS is the third instalment in Rowan Keats Claimed by the Highlander series and it is utterly brilliant October 1286 Caitrina de Monfort is the lady in waiting to her cousin the ueen Scotland who is awaiting the birth of her child in a remote abbey Caitrina was coerced to spy on the ueen on behalf of Kind Edward of England by a dastardly villain and Caitrina must fulfil her mission otherwise her sister will come to much harm But the appearance of certain Marshal Gordon at the manor house changes verything Bran MacLean is fleeing from Highlanders he robbed and he hides in the first place that seems convenient the manor house of the abbey He convinces veryone he is Marshal Gordon if only to be able hide his stolen goods until his pursuers have lost his trail However Caitrina sees him stash his loot and strikes a bargain with Bran she won t say a word about his duplicity if he helps her find her sister It was love at first sight with Bran He is dashing daring charming he bluffs his way into anything with panache and flair He is a thief but he s also a brave and honourable man Caitrina although a very proper young lady is determined to get her sister back at any cost she is courageous resourceful clever and she stands up to Bran to get what she wants Bran and Caitrina are a match made in heaven they share real chemistry and witty banter in fact all the characters are very well defined Ms Keats takes meticulous care with period details whether it be the food the clothing or the furnishings she also paints a realistic portrait of the life of women at that time I felt transported to medieval Scotland WHAT A LASS WANTS has a lot of action suspense political intrigue not to forget the beautiful love story between Bran and Caitrina Rowan Keats was a new author to me and WHAT A LASS WANTS was a such a splendid surprise beautifully written spellbinding and truly romantic I will make sure to look for this author s books in the futureI received a complimentary copy of this book in xchange for my honest review This is a very well researched look at the life and times of people in the vicinity of Stirling particularly a royal household in the uncertain politics around the day of King Edward Longshanks In historical books we tend to follow well off people because they were the ones who could travel and who had some Gender Justice education Here a common problem being accused of treachery has made one family suspect and the accusation of theft another common problemspecially in clan raids or border areas has done another family down A girl Caitrina is attending the ueen who is about to give birth to the next royal heir in a few weeks Her sister is being held by a criminal in the woods but she can t leave the household and she can t leave the household and complication occurs The young man accused of theft rightly Generations and Collective Memory evades his pursuers and since the lord of the manor is not home Bran assumes a position of authority in the lord s service This should only be a temporary measure until his pursuers leave the area but when he and the girlach discover the other has problems they start to work together Fun and frolics include a girl dressing as a boy a man Dressing As An Ample as an ample swordfighting and a brave lass trying to outwit her captors We get good looks at the clothing of the day and the food reuired in the cold October weather This is an adult ro. Ger from all sides The men hunting Bran for lifting jewels he really should have Left Be Threats To The be threats to the and her unborn son Caitrina have left be threats to the ueen and her unborn son Caitrina sister being held captive There were gruesome moments and ones that really really made me want to hurt someone It kept me turning the pages and rooting for Bran and Caitrina to somehow find a way to win the battle and despite the obstacles in the way claim their happily ver afterAll in all Keats swept me away to another time and left me satisfied and smiling as I closed What a Lass Wants Book 4 of the Claimed by the Highlander series it a bit different than it s previous counterparts in that our hero isn t a member of the MacCurran clan It took me until 34 of the way through to discover that Bran MacLean was the thief who helped get Wolf MacCurran out of prison with his cleaver plan of disguise Honestly it could have been a stand alone book as the invents that tied it to the previous books weren t a huge part of the plot were From Notes to Narrative easily and uicklyxplained once Bran s identity was refreshed for the reader I had spent the first 75% of the book wondering how this book fit in with the series as I had forgotten Bran s connection and so it was a big aha moment followed closely by a less Guitar Makers: The Endurance of Artisanal Values in North America enthusiastic Oh okayThe book s intimate scenes weren t terrible but I think my short term obsession with historical romance novels is beginning to wane I think it has less to do with this book in particular and to do with the fact that I ve readnough first time love scenes where the hero knows how to please his partner from the very beginning the very virgin bleeds her first time myth is played out and the heroin orgasms very time lucky her So perhaps it s time to put the historical romance genre to bed until the desire is aroused again pun intendedAs a side note I m not sure if book 4 is so much shorter than the previous 3 books or if I just happened to have a larger chunk of time available to listen to it compared to the others but I was surprised to have finished listening to it in a single dayRead it if you re looking for a stand alone book or feel compelled to finish out a series as I usually doSkip it if you re xpecting a strong MacCurrin presence A pretty good read What a Lass Wants Claimed by the Highlander 4by Rowan KeatsIn the Highlands of Scotland danger and desire can be found anywhere but finding them may lead to something much perilous and passionate than anyone can handleLady in waiting Caitrina de Montfort is in a terrible bind With her sister held captive by a henchman of Edward Longshanks she has been forced to spy On The Dowager Ueen the dowager ueen Scotland But the resourceful young noblewoman has a plan to set her sister free until the arrival of a charming but steely yed courtier ruins verythingBran MacLean has made his living by his wits for most of his life After stealing a valuable treasure he vades pursuit by donning a disguise and joining the ueen s retinue All goes well until the lovely Caitrina pilfers his loot and demands his aid in rescuing her sister But their nemy is ruthless and they soon find themselves facing a desperate choice between love and survivalMy ReviewWhat a Lass Wants is one of those romances you first assume are an opposites attract kind of passion story but you uickly begin to realize that Bran and Caitrina are alike than you thought Both our hh have heart and soul and they both have plenty of feisty courage to keep readers ntertained I really liked Caitrina s take no shit attitude and the fact that she wasn t a weepy willow lead for our sexy as can be Bran Although I wish we had gotten passion with our seduction it was just Foraging for Survival enough for a slow building believable relationship for our couple Rowan Keats is a funnergetic writer with plenty of love for us swoon worthy steam lovers My Rating4 StarsReviewed ByKrissy s Bookshelf ReviewshttpkkmalottbooklikescomNote I received a print copy in Fragments exchange for an honest review from Berkle.
